The “Crown of the Peninsula” depicts the uses of our local land and its inhabitants over time. Take a journey with the native peoples, Mexican land grantees, early California settlers, and apricot growers as they make what is now Los Altos their home.
The heart of this exhibition, and a key attraction for children of all ages, is a model railroad depicting the trains that ran along the local rails and many of the sights and sounds of that era. The trains run against a background replica of First Street in Downtown Los Altos in 1932. The scene features the buildings and businesses of the town with surprising animated features.
The centerpiece family tree represents residents and organizations that have transformed the area from vast orchards to a culturally diverse community and high-tech hub.
